No to Plastic in Eco-Sensitive Valley through Art

Monika Barnwal, Vijay Kumar, Department of Tourism and Hospitality Management, Jamia Millia Islamia University, India.

Summary

The Spiti Valley, India, has been suffering from solid waste littering at an alarming rate, which is disrupting its environment. The cry to adopt sustainable and responsible travelling has brought social media influencers, an artist and a non-governmental organization (NGO) together to come up with a unique idea to motivate people not to discard plastic in Spiti Valley through visual art. This collaboration led to the launching of a plastic-free campaign in 2017 which brought together inspiration from related stakeholders who aim to offer or practise responsible travel and tourism.
